Review: Bridges Restaurant

Came here for dinner earlier today, and it was definitely the perfect time to try out this place! Bridges Restaurant has been a place that has always been on my list of places to eat – being on Granville Island, I must’ve passed by at least a hundred times before, and never gone in.

Bridges is located in a picture perfect location – right by the docks & facing downtown and the Burrard Bridge. They have an upstairs deck for formal dining, as well as an outdoor patio for more casual dining. Might I add, the downstairs interior looked great! A nice variety of the usual tables and chairs as well as comfy couches and lounge-style seating. I noticed a string of lights on the outdoor patio, so it must be absolutely beautiful for dinner late in the evening! Plus there are a ton of heat lamps, so you won’t need to worry about getting cold.

Nachos: served with guacamole, salsa, sour cream, jalapenos and black olives. Delicious!! Although this is listed under ‘Small Plates’ beware – this is a huge pile of nachos! One plate will be a meal enough for one. Sharing this plate with someone else will leave you just enough room for dessert. Recommended!

Burger & Fries: disappointment. When I go to a cheap fast-food restaurant and grab a burger for a few bucks, I know I’m just getting a patty with sauce & lettuce squished between two buns. When I go to a restaurant and pay three times the price, I expect something three times as good. I hate to say it but I really did not enjoy this burger! It was plain and definitely not worth the $15 (plus $2 for the adding cheddar cheese) The taste was your average family picnic burger – and even then, maybe not as good. I’ve had better at Red Robin! On a side note, there was a tiny piece of hair found on my pickle but I hate to make a big deal about it so I’ll digress…

Nut Cluster: pistachio & ferrero rocher gelato served with whipped cream & caramel sauce. I’ve never had pistachio gelato before but to me this was definitely tasty!

The eating experience was great – service was awesome and the beautiful view always helps. However, I was distracted by the seagulls & pigeons flying by! But I won’t complain too much, and I won’t take that into account for the rating considering we were eating right by the dock :p

Verdict: The burgers are just alright, but the nachos & dessert were a different story. Tasty, filling, and inexpensive! Bridges does some dishes okay, but some dishes quite good, so it really just depends. To give a more thorough review, I’d have to come back another time and try a few more items.

Rating: 3.5/5 (The nachos & dessert give it the extra .5)
