Stopped by this place a few weeks ago to grab an early dinner. Because it’s been so long, I can’t give a detailed review, but I can throw in the bits and pieces I remember. Lupo calls itself a casual Italian place, however, it could definitely pass as a bit more on the fine dining side! Located in Downtown, you might expect the usual 2 floor box-shaped restaurant – but Lupo is a restaurant inside a house! And not just a plain old house that makes you wish you went somewhere else – you feel comfy and intimate in a clean, relaxing atmosphere.
I dined upstairs and luckily got the seat right by the window! Although my view was only of Hamilton Street (which is really just road, cars, and a hotel and apartments) I still was pretty impressed. Even the server had a nice Italian accent which just added to the experience. Icing on the cake.
Parmesan Sformato: Piquillo peppers + almond salad
You get two chilled, stuffed red peppers (not spicy!) These definitely had a unique taste to them, but nonetheless good! May not be for all palates however.
Ricotta Gnocchi: Natural pork cheeks, porcini + “sugo” di pomodoro
I didn’t know what to expect with this dish – I’m used to eating mediocre pasta. However, this was delicious and I’m glad I chose it over anything else!
Bread: with extra virgin olive oil
Someone once told me that you can judge a restaurant by the quality of its bread. And since the bread was delicious, I think it’s safe to say Lupo is awesome.
Cheesecake: Delicious. Exactly how I expect cheesecake to taste! Would DEFINITELY by this again! Shared this dessert, but if you love cheesecake, seriously consider having your own slice.
Verdict: I LOVE this place! Everything impressed me – from the beautiful interior to the cool view outside to the authentic server with the Italian accent to the way the food was presented! However, the price for ‘casual dining’ is a lot closer to fine dining. I would definitely come back for a special occasion or even just a nicer dinner with a few family members or close friends.
