Since it was Make Music Festival in Gastown today, I thought I would stop by Meat & Bread since it was in the area. Cute little sandwich place, with a classic but modern feel. Wooden tables and clean white walls, simple but classy in its own way. Anyways, as I decided to order the Porchetta it turned out the woman before me had ordered the last one!!!!!!! Can you believe my luck?
So anyways, I settled for the Meatball since I didn’t want to waste the opportunity.
Meat & Bread is a small, hip, casual sandwich cafe-style eatery. There’s a good amount of seating and this is more of a grab-and-go type place (no table service). As far as presentation goes, the sandwich looked pretty awesome! Nicely put together with a side of their special mustard on a plank of wood.
Meatball Sandwich: The bread was perfectly crunchy, enough to make the sandwich interesting but not enough to crumble into a billion pieces. The Meatball sandwich was a bit spicy, pretty messy (kept falling apart), but also pretty tasty.
All I can say is I REALLY wish I had gotten the chance to try the Porchetta instead of the Meatball sandwich. But to be honest, despite being ONLY $8.96, it was pretty small for being $8.96 – I think I was only full because I wasn’t that hungry, and since I had a few cups of water to go with it. I also really wish there was a bigger menu with more to choose from!
Rating: 3/3
Verdict: Not enough for me to rave about, but definitely a hip spot to grab a bite to eat. It’s a little overpriced for just your average sized sandwich, so it’s not great for anyone with a big appetite (unless you add on some sides). If you’re in the area anyway, Meat & Bread is a good choice, especially for those of you who want more than your average everyday sandwich.

This is a very accurate write up

Porchetta sandwiches need to be had from Ariccia. After you’ve had one there, you’ll never set foot in M+B again. And wtf is up with those prices? For the price of ONE meat and bread sandwich, I could buy TWO banh mis AND still have change for dessert.
