Finally had the opportunity to try this place out for some brunch! I’ve been wanting to eat here after seeing it featured on an episode of the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-In’s & Dives. However, this means two things: the food here is good and inexpensive, but you pay for it by having to wait in line! I arrived here with a friend just around 11:30am on a Tuesday and still had to wait a little bit over an hour. And that’s the wait for just two people – I can’t imagine how long it would be if I had come here with a few more friends!
Anyway, Jethro’s is a really small space. We’re talking about 3 large (can seat 4) tables, and about 4 other small (can seat 2) tables – so that’s about 7 altogether. Helpful hint: if you’re really keen on trying some of their famous brunch and don’t have the patience to wait in line, order for pick up!
So after scanning through the menu several hundred times, I finally decided on The Rooster ($11). Two huge pancakes with espresso, dark chocolate chips, and a side of chocolate gravy for $1.50 more. First things first: these two pancakes were MASSIVE. I’d say they were about 12″ in diameter and they were extremely fluffy. I ended up having to take the rest of home – which was about half of the two pancakes. I was only able to finish about 1 pancake by myself!! I only wish that there were more chunks of chocolate and espresso – or at least they were more evenly distributed!
I didn’t get the chance to try anything else on the menu, but I would definitely want to return to do so!
Key Points:
- $2 coffee – free refills!
- Portions are massive
- Everything is pretty much under $14
- Expect long wait times during the rush!
Verdict: For the price, the service, the portion sizing, the food - I would definitely come back here. However, it might just be for a take out order or at least avoid the rush!
